A Woman's Heart Is A Deep Ocean Of Secrets

What do we know about Agent 355? Agent 355 was the code name given to a member of the Culper spy ring during the American Revolution. Though the true identity of Agent 355 is lost to history,  Agent 355 is thought to have been a woman. The number, 355, was thought to mean "lady" based upon the secret code used by the Culper spy ring, which was led by Abraham Woodhull,  AKA "Samuel Culper Sr.".

Woodhull is assumed to have recruited Agent 355 to join the Culper spy ring. Though there are many theories as to her identity, it was her close proximity to Woodhull that has led many to believe that Agent 355 was Anna Strong, Woodhull's neighbor.

Due to Agent 355's apparant access to British commanders, it is believed that she may have been a member of a prominent Loyalist family. As evidence of this theory, Agent 355 is said to have played a significant role in exposing Benedict Arnold as a traitor to the Patriot cause.

The Culper Spy Ring is widely regarded as one of America's first spy rings, which would make Agent 355 a trailblazer, one of the very first woman spies ever in America.
